GET A FEEL FOR THE CITY
Life in Bishkek.
Bishkek is Kyrgyzstan's capital, a leafy grid city at the foot of the Ala-Too range and the cheapest of the Central Asian capitals for long-stay renters. The centre around Ala-Too Square and the so-called Golden Square is the most walkable part, Asanbai and Jal to the south are newer microdistricts with modern apartment blocks, and Vostok-5 in the east is a large Soviet-era residential zone. Marshrutka minibuses and trolleybuses handle transport and Manas airport is 25 km north.
